Marian Esther Austin, age 94, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the daughter of Norman and Lucy (Cheever) Marquand on October 5, 1918, near Clarksville, Iowa. She graduated from Shell Rock High School in 1937.
Marian was united in marriage with Frank Austin on January 7, 1938, in Allison, Iowa. The couple made their home and farmed in the Shell Rock area after marriage. Marian was a loving wife and mother. She took care of her family and home while Frank farmed. They moved to Clarksville in 1953, and continued farming until 1964 when they retired and moved to town.
Marian was a faithful member of Community United Methodist Church in Clarksville, along with attending worship, she participated in the Women’s Society. She was active in the Friendly Neighbors Club and enjoyed playing cards with friends. Marian was a wonderful cook, baker and enjoyed canning tomatoes. She also collected dolls and enjoyed reading. Marian liked listening to music, mostly country and old time gospel. She was fond of hearing Danny O’ Donnell sing and also listening to Kitchen Klatter on the radio. Marian was also a faithful fan of “As The World Turns”. Marian loved spending time with her family and adored all her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.
Marian died February 5, 2013, at the Waverly Health Center in Waverly, from natural causes. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother in infancy; one great-granddaughter, Casie; and one daughter-in-law, Muriel “Mert” Austin.
Marian is survived by her husband of 75 years, Frank Austin of Clarksville, Iowa; two sons, Craig Austin and Mike (Sally) Austin all of Waverly, Iowa; one daughter, Sandy Austin of Clarksville, Iowa; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a special pet dog Buddy.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 8, 2013, at Community United Methodist Church with burial in Lynwood Cemetery, both in Clarksville.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday at Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Clarksville, (319)278-4245 and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
