Katherine Kampman, age 93, of Aplington, was born on October 29, 1919, the daughter of Eildert and Johanna (Haats) Eilderts at her parents’ home in rural Aplington. She received her education at Ripley #5 Country School.
Katherine married John Kampman on February 7, 1939, at the Bethel Reformed Church parsonage. Following their marriage, John and Katherine farmed north of Aplington. In 1985, she moved to Aplington where she resided independently until her death.
Katherine was a member of the Bethel Reformed Church. She dearly enjoyed attending church services and was active in their women’s group. Katherine took great satisfaction in farming with her husband and had a big heart for children. Katherine loved gardening, reading and flowers. She was a great cook and loved to do jigsaw puzzles.
Katherine died at The Presbyterian Village in Ackley, Iowa on Friday, January 25, 2013, of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John on October 30, 1983; two sisters, Stella Schipper, Gerdena Kampman and one brother, Arnold Eilderts.
Katherine is survived by one son, Darwin (Mavis) Kampman of Aplington; two daughters, Joanne (Gary) Miller of Clear Lake, Iowa and Carolyn (Richard) Sheckler of DeWitt, Iowa; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harry (Marge) Eilderts of Parkersburg and Robert (Doris) Eilderts of Yuma, Arizona; one sister, Albertha Schipper of Cedar Falls, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Laura Eilderts of Marshalltown, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 28, 2013, at Bethel Reformed Church with burial in Bethel Reformed Church Cemetery, both in rural Aplington.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday at Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel in Aplington, (319)347-6275 and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
