U.S. VeteranLyle George “Mic” Roose, age 90, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the son of George and Mary (Frerichs) Roose, Sr. on August 11, 1921, at home on the farm near Clarksville. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Clarksville. He received his education at a rural county school near his home and graduated from the Allison High School. He continued his education at Gates Business College in Waterloo, Iowa for two years, where he graduated in business and bookkeeping.

On June 19, 1942, Lyle was united in marriage with Beverly Wedeking at the Unity Presbyterian Church, rural Clarksville. The couple made their home in Clarksville. That October he was inducted in the United States Army where he served in Normandy, France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe where he received the Silver Star medal and was honorably discharged on November 1, 1945.

For a short time they lived with their Aunt Erma and Uncle Clarence Wedeking in Waterloo, where he worked at Rath Packing. Following their move to Clarksville, Mic did bookkeeping for the local car dealer in Clarksville and sold insurance for Farm Bureau Insurance Company. For a short time he also worked at Phillip 66 service station and Skelly service station in Clarksville. For the next 40 years he owned and operated Clarksville Oil Company, until retirement.

Mic was a member of Unity Presbyterian Church where he liked attending the Mariners Group with Bev, a husband and wife group. Mic was a very active member of the Clarksville AMVETS and had served at Secretary and Treasurer. In his spare time he enjoyed trout fishing, camping with their 5th wheel which brought many wonderful family memories and taking trips down to Branson, MO. He loved cars, going to auctions, was a “collector” of many things, especially red glass, and liked watching the Cubs and White Sox’s play.
