Grace Allison

Grace Allison, age 96, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born May 6, 1916, in Allison, Iowa, the daughter of Arnold and Grace (Westerman) Buss. Grace received her education and graduated from Allison High School in 1934. After graduation she helped her sister at the hotel and worked at a store, both in Allison.

On June 28, 1941, Grace married Robert Allison in Shell Rock, Iowa. After their marriage they made their home in Parkersburg where they lived their entire married life. Grace was a loving wife and mother to their four children. Grace had two huge gardens for flowers and vegetables and she did a lot of canning. She was an avid reader and read her Bible every day. Grace was baptized on May 6, 2008. Grace’s greatest joy was taking care of her family and grandchildren.

Grace died Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at her daughter, Rebecca’s home in Parkersburg of natural causes. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert on May 19, 1997; her son, Michael on July 14, 2008; three brothers, Henry Buss, John Buss, and Milo Buss; five sisters, Etta Jones, Anne Bettesworth, Katie Dralle, Edna Williams and Jennie Buss; one daughter-in-law, Karla Allison.

Grace is survived by two sons, David (Linda) Allison of Cody, Wyoming and Gregory (Pam) Allison of Waterloo, Iowa; one daughter, Rebecca (Mark) Youngberg of Parkersburg; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Frances “Pinky” Allison of Aplington.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2013 at First Congregational Church in Parkersburg, with burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg, (319)346-1534, and one hour before services at the church.

Memorials may be directed the Parkersburg Library or the Cedar Valley Hospice..
